Most gold hoop earrings come with 10 – 24 karats. A 10-karat earring has only 41.6% gold but it harder than those with higher gold content, making it better at clasping diamonds. An 18-karat gold can still do the job, but anything higher is not recommended. Leave 20 – 24 karats for metals-only earrings.
